Our plans for the Sport Sister Foundation.

I’m writing this at the end of April so it’s probably a bit late to be talking about New Year’s Resolutions. It’s not something I go for anyway but I do like to set goals for the business at the start of the year.  We’ve been fortunate that the start of 2023 has been really busy – new clients, existing clients, lots of projects, an exciting time.  So where do we go next?

Around this time last year, we released our Club Development Grants.  I’ve always felt that the best way to have a real tangible impact on women’s and girls’ participation in sport is to invest in clubs.  They make things happen and have existing infrastructure to build on as participation increases. That’s why we ringfence a percentage of our profits to go towards these grants.  Last year we gave grants to clubs from various sports – cricket, rugby union, BMX, football (including walking football), and more.

The problem is we were massively oversubscribed and had to turn down a lot more applications than we could fund. There were some fantastic clubs that we had to say ‘no’ to and some amazing plans on how they wanted to engage more women and girls in their sport.

So at the start of this year, when I looked at what I wanted Sport Sister to achieve in 2023, one of the things on my list was the formation of the Sport Sister Foundation.  Taking the original Club Development Grants concept and making it much bigger.  Raising funds to make the pot bigger than just a percentage of our profits.  Allowing people to donate to the cause, and then distributing more money to more clubs to really make a difference on the ground.

So this is Sport Sister putting this out into the universe! If you have advice, suggestions, or thoughts on our plans we want to hear them.  I think there is potential to do something really exciting here and we have 8 months left in this year to get the wheels in motion.  Let’s see where this leads…
