Supporting women and girls in sport doesn’t always mean being on the pitch or in the gym. There are so many ways you can make a real difference, from giving your time to raising funds or simply sharing a message. We’ve been talking about this a lot recently as we continue to develop Sport Sister Community. We believe that everyone has a role to play in empowering women and girls through sport. Here’s how you can get involved.

Volunteer your time

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to support the cause. Local sports clubs, community events, and youth programmes are always looking for helping hands. You could:

  • Coach or mentor young athletes
  • Help organise events and fixtures
  • Support teams with admin or logistics
  • Offer skills such as photography, social media, or first aid

Even a few hours a month can make a big impact. Volunteering helps build stronger, more inclusive communities, and gives you the chance to meet like-minded people who share your passion for sport and equality.

Fundraise for the cause

Fundraising is another powerful way to contribute. Whether you host a charity run, organise a quiz night, or take on a personal challenge, every pound raised helps fund programmes that get more girls active and confident.

You could:

  • Host a community event such as a bake sale or fun run
  • Encourage your workplace or school to support a sports charity
  • Mark special occasions by donating instead of receiving gifts

You could also make a donation to an organisation, either as a one-off or as a regular donation. If you’d like to make a donation to Sport Sister Community then you can do so here.

No effort is too small. Every bit of support helps provide equipment, coaching, and opportunities that can change lives.

Spread the word

Sometimes, the simplest action can have the biggest ripple effect. By talking about women’s sport, celebrating achievements, and challenging stereotypes, you help shift perceptions and inspire others to get involved.

You can:

  • Share stories and events on social media
  • Encourage friends and family to attend local women’s matches
  • Talk about the importance of equality in sport
  • Support female athletes and teams by following and promoting their journeys

Spreading the word raises awareness and builds momentum. The more people who know about the cause, the stronger the movement becomes.

Every action counts

Whether you volunteer, fundraise, or simply talk about women’s sport, your support makes a difference. Together, we can create a future where every girl feels confident to take part, compete, and lead through sport.

Get involved today – because when women support women, incredible things happen.
