Ok, I might have built a whole business around sport, but I understand that sport isn’t for everyone and some people aren’t huge fans.  So how do you stay active if sport isn’t your thing?  Here are some quick tips that might help you.

1. Where do you like to be? If you like the great outdoors, then a walk in some of your favourite places is a great way to be active. You can combine a walk with exploring a new place or seeing some sights. Perhaps there’s a National Trust site near you that you’d like to explore? If you prefer being at home, there are countless home workouts on YouTube you can access for free, and you can relax on the sofa afterwards!

2. Finding someone else to be active with is a great incentive because you can keep each other on track. Perhaps a friend, family member or another mum from school, also wants to be more active? Exercising is always less intimidating if you have someone else to do it with.  You can go to a class together, go for a walk, or take the kids somewhere in the holidays where you can all be active together?   Focus on having fun whilst you’re being active and remember, you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it!

3. Combine being active with other things you enjoy.  If you love photography then grab your camera and go for a walk to take some photos.  If you like nice food and drink then have a walk to your favourite restaurant!  Perhaps your local pool has a spa so you could go for a swim and follow it up with a well-earned massage?  There’s nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for being active – you deserve it!

4. Set yourself achievable goals. Many of us are familiar with counting steps through the various smart gadgets we carry with us.  Set yourself a goal for how many steps you want to do each day.  It doesn’t need to be a massive target.  Just something to encourage you to get moving and to track how you’re getting on.  Plus achieving that target feels great, and can help you feel motivated to keep up with your new good habit.

5. Be open to trying new things. There are so many different ways to be active and so many different sports to try.  It could just be a case that you haven’t found what you like yet. Personally, padel is next on my list to give a go!  Try different classes, different activities, different places to walk.  You won’t enjoy everything but you’re bound to find a way of being active that works for you.
